2-1-13- Marybeth O'Sullivan Beloved recruiter and commander Marybeth O'Sullivan, USN, 59, of Brockton, Mass., succumbed on Jan. 30, 2013 after an 18-month battle with ovarian cancer.
A navy nurse, she dedicated her life to helping others, be it as a nurse, mother, a veteran, and, for more than 10 years, as recruiter for the Veterans Upward Bound program. She was an incredibly strong advocate for homeless veterans through the Upward Bound program and called them "her people."
She was born May 9, 1953 in Huntington, N.Y. She was a graduate of Holy Family High School, St. Vincent Hospital School of Nursing and Long Island University C.W. Post.
She was loving mother to Heather O'Sullivan, Marybeth Rudisile, Michael O'Sullivan, Ryan Frazer and Samantha Frazer; loving sister to Herbert Gathercole, Louise Krauss, Janine Keary, Susan Cummings, of Center Conway, Kenneth Gathercole, Robert Gathercole, and Celine Tinkham, of Jackson; loving grandmother to Evan, Edie, Brady, Aubrey, Johnny and Bella. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. She was the daughter of the late Herbert and Louise Gathercole.
Funeral is at the Quealy and Sons Funeral Home at 116 Adams Street in Abington, Mass. Saturday Feb. 2, at 8 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at St. Bridget's in Abington a 9 a.m. Visitation is Friday, Feb. 1, from 2 to 4 .m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Interment is a later date at St. Francis Cemetery in Weymouth.
